Skype's new contacts list can be integrated with your Mac address book, making searching for contacts much easier. Renaming contacts means you no longer need to search by skype name.

  1. All you need to get started is Mac OS X 10.6 or above, a webcam for video calls and a microphone. To get the latest Skype for Mac (version 7+), you'll need Mac OS X 10.9 or above.
  2. As per the page, users on Mac OS 10.9 can use Skype v 8.49 but not higher. However, clicking on the OS Name (Ex Mac in my case) takes us to only the latest version irrespective of the Mac OS Version that I am on.
  3. For users of Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 latest available version should have stayed Skype 7.36.217 for Mac OS X. However, as it turned out, in that version there are a couple of problems with the connection, and the developers have released a minor release of Skype 7.36.507 for Mac OS X, which fixes them. New version is available.
  4. Legacy Mac clients. Skype for Business Server 2015 also supports the following legacy clients on computers that are running Mac OS 10.5.8 or latest service pack or release (Intel-based) operating systems (Mac OS 10.9 operating system is not currently supported).

A month ago, went out version Skype 7.37.178 for Mac OS X which no longer supports versions younger than Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10. For users of Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 latest available version should have stayed Skype 7.36.217 for Mac OS X.
